Lab testing is often a routine part of pediatric visits. Rather than scheduling two separate appointments, one for lab testing and the other for a checkup with your doctor, see Advanced Pediatrics of Rockland in Pomona, New York. Andrew Satran, MD, offers in-office lab testing, including blood draws, to save you time and money. Schedule an appointment by phone or book online today.

Lab Testing Q & A

What is lab testing?

Lab testing includes diagnostic procedures that allow your child’s pediatrician to diagnose a health problem. Examples of lab tests include blood tests, urine tests, nasal or throat swabs, and tissue biopsies. A laboratory can analyze the sample and detect or rule out medical problems requiring treatment.

What are the benefits of lab testing?

The main benefit of lab testing is that it allows Dr. Satran to rule out or diagnose common conditions patients can experience at some point during their childhood. The option of in-office blood draws and other diagnostic tests means you don’t have to schedule a separate appointment for lab testing.

Why would my child need lab testing?

Dr. Satran may recommend your child undergo lab testing if they’re at risk of, or experience symptoms of, the following:

  • Flu
  • COVID-19
  • Diabetes
  • Celiac disease
  • Nutritional deficiencies
  • High cholesterol
  • Genetic abnormalities
  • Thyroid problems
  • Other hormone disorders
  • Allergies
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
  • Autoimmune disorders

To find out if lab testing is right for your child, Dr. Satran reviews their symptoms, medical history, and risk factors. He also completes a physical examination.

What happens during lab testing?

Lab testing at Advanced Pediatrics of Rockland is a simple process. Your child might urinate into a cup or undergo a blood draw, nasal swab, or throat swab. In some cases, you receive lab testing results the same day as the procedure. In other cases, however, it might take a few days or a week before Dr. Satran has the results.

What should I expect after lab testing?

After you receive your child’s lab test results, Dr. Satran reviews them with you. If your child has an illness or disease, he discusses treatment options. He might prescribe medications or other treatments as needed. If your child is deficient in certain vitamins or minerals, Dr. Satran may suggest they take dietary supplements.

In the case of diabetes, your child might need insulin injections. Dr. Satran monitors your child’s progress to ensure their treatment works effectively.

If your child is due for an annual physical or experiences new or unusual symptoms that may warrant lab testing, schedule an appointment at Advanced Pediatrics of Rockland by phone or online today.
