Newborn Care Q & A

What is an annual physical?

An annual physical is a medical checkup Dr. Satran completes once yearly to ensure your child grows and develops normally. They might also require a sports or school physical during certain times of the year. Attending routine physicals at Advanced Pediatrics of Rockland is one of the best ways to keep your child healthy.

What happens during an annual physical?

During your child’s annual physical exam, Dr. Satran completes the following:

Vital sign check

When they arrive at Advanced Pediatrics of Rockland, your child’s provider checks their vital signs. They assess their weight, height, growth, blood pressure, pulse, and temperature.

Medical history review

During the medical review portion of your child’s annual physical, Dr. Satran asks questions about their medical history. This includes past diagnoses or surgeries, medications your child may take, and symptoms they might have. He also inquires about their development, lifestyle, and mental health.

Physical examination

During a physical exam, Dr. Satran evaluates your child’s eyes, ears, throat, breathing, reflexes, and heartbeat. He looks for signs of illness, disease, injuries, or other health issues.

Diagnostic testing

Diagnostic testing helps Dr. Satran determine if your child has a health problem requiring treatment. He might recommend:

  • Hearing and vision tests
  • Heart function tests
  • Psychiatric evaluations
  • Blood tests
  • Urine tests
  • Allergy or asthma testing
  • Nasal or throat swabs
  • X-rays, MRIs, CT scans, or ultrasounds

Advanced Pediatrics of Rockland offers on-site blood draws for added patient convenience.

Will my child need treatment?

If your child is healthy, they likely don’t require any treatment. However, Advanced Pediatrics of Rockland offers immunizations to protect them from contracting certain illnesses. If your child has an injury, illness, or disease, Dr. Satran can prescribe medications as needed.

He might recommend taking multivitamins or other dietary supplements, making diet and lifestyle changes, or undergoing further diagnostic testing.

Advanced Pediatrics of Rockland refers your child to a specialist as needed for complex medical problems. Dr. Satran can also sign required paperwork after completing sports or school physicals.

If your child is due for an annual physical, call the Advanced Pediatrics of Rockland office today or schedule an appointment online.
